Malaysia Meteorological Department (MMD) of Malaysia conducted the ASEAN-Japan Training Workshop on Climate Change Application in ASEAN (22 October 2009) The Training Workshop on Climate Applications in ASEAN was successfully held on 5 – 9 October 2009 in Petaling Jaya. Malaysia. The workshop aims to promote the effective use of the regional ASEAN climate dataset for climate related applications. It also aims to promote greater understanding of changes in climate to enable better preparation for risk management against the adverse impacts of regional climate variations such as those due to the El Nino, La Nina and the Indian Ocean Dipole.
The Workshop was organized by Malaysia Meteorological Department (MMD) of Malaysia with fully support from the Government of Japan through the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF). The the Workshop was officiated by Y.Bhg. Dato’ Sharifah Zarah, Deputy Secretary General (Policy), Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Malaysia.
Four experts from ASEAN and Japan (have been invited as resource persons to share their experiences and also help participants to enhance their understanding of climate, its variability, and their impact in ASEAN region.
The workshop was attended by 38 participants with 13 of them from Malaysia, 24 from the other 9 ASEAN countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) and representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat.
