SCOSA Workshop on Disaster Mitigation Using Remote Sensing and GIS

Purpose:
The main purpose of the Workshop is to develop Mini-Project proposal that would
address Disaster Management and Mitigation using Remote Sensing and GIS technologies.
Expected participants:
Brunei-Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar,
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. ADRC, ASEAN secretariat, SCOSA
Secretariat, CRISP, JAXA, AIT, Vietnamese space and disaster related agencies,
and some experts
Expected Workshop Output:
At the end of two-day Workshop, the Mini-Project proposal will be formulated
and submitted to JAXA for financial and technical consideration.
Other Relevant Information:
The above activity is a capacity building program of the Japan Aerospace Exploration
Agency (JAXA). ASEAN Member Countries are invited to submit proposals on the
use of remote sensing and GIS for various applications, including but not limited
to disaster management and mitigation.
Selected countries will be provided with the following benefits:
- training at AIT at least in two occasions for about 8 weeks,
- free satellite data and
- fieldwork support to accomplish a work program identified by participating
agencies and JAXA/AIT.
Some of the current Mini-Projects are carried out in Bangladesh, Cambodia,
Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam on Flood Mitigation using RS/GIS,
Landslide Mapping, Urban planning and earthquake hazards mitigation.
