ASEAN-US Roundtable on Agricultural Biotechnology Policy and Strategy

The Roundtable, implemented under the Sub-Committee on Biotechnology (SCB), is organized by the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (NCGEB) of Thailand and is supported by the Governments of US and Thailand. It aims to provide an opportunity for ASEAN and US officials to engage on issues of mutual interest pertaining to agricultural biotechnology and economic development. The Roundtable would critically examine policies, capacities, and relevant options to encourage the acceptance and development of agricultural biotechnology. While the experts will deliver presentations and facilitate group discussions, the program format will emphasize dialogue among the delegations to share their respective positions, clarify goals, and identify potential areas of cooperation on agricultural biotechnology.

The Roundtable was participated by inter-ministerial delegations from the U.S and ASEAN Member Countries, and the ASEAN Secretariat. As the issues to be discussed cut across several other ASEAN sectoral bodies, such as SOM-AMAF and SOM-Health, the representatives of these ASEAN bodies are expected to also participate in the Roundtable.
