The Second ASEAN-India Bioinformatics HRD Workshop, New Delhi, 14-16 December 2006 Following the success of the first Workshop held in Hyderabad, India, on 7-11 November 2005, the Department of Biotechnology of India and the ASEAN Sub-Committee on Biotechnology (SCB) will organize the Second ASEAN-India Bioinformatics HRD Workshop on 14-16 December 2006 in New Delhi back-to-back with the International Conference on Bioinformatics 2006 (InCob 2006) which will be held on 18-20 December 2006. The two events will be hosted by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of India. The Workshop, supported by the ASEAN-India Cooperation Fund, aims to share bioinformatics developments in India and ASEAN Member Countries. It will also discuss the ASEAN wide Bioinformatics masterplan and a template for a national roadmap for implementing bioinformatics training courses and capacity building. During the Workshop, a sideline meeting will also be held with the DBT officials on future biotechnology cooperation ASEAN and India. Around 20 bioinformatics specialists from all ASEAN countries are expected to participate in the Workshop. A Keynote Address on Bioinformatics Challenges & Opportunities will be delivered by Prof. A.S. Kolaskar, University of Pune, India. Several key Indian and ASEAN experts will also present lectures on proteomics and genomics. Shri. Kapil Siba, Hon. Minister, Science & Technology and Earth Sciences
