The ASEAN Ministers responsible for S&T will convene their 12th Meeting in Mandalay, Myanmar, on 16-17 November 2007. The Ministerial Meeting will be preceded by the 54th Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Science and Technology (COST) and its subsidiary bodies. These sideline meetings will be held on 11-15 November 2007.

High on the agenda of the Ministerial Meting is the implementation of the ASEAN Plan of Action on Science and Technology (APAST) 2007-2011 which were endorsed by the Ministers in February 2007. Activities in support the APAST include the various flagship programmes in the areas of disaster management, energy, emerging diseases and IT.

The Ministers will also discuss efforts to strengthen the ASEAN S&T cooperation with the ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners. These include the establishment of the ASEAN-US S&T Agreement. As the Ministers already met with their counterparts from several Dialogue Partners last year, the Ministers are expected to support the idea of convening more consultations with their counterparts from Dialogue Partners in the near future.
