Around 20 participants from ASEAN Member Countries took part in a training course on Programming, IT Management and Ubiquitous Computing held during 18 November – 1 December 2007, in Incheon, Korea. The training course was hosted and organised by the Seoul Institute for Vocational Training in Advanced Technology (SIVAT) under the Human Resources Development (HRD) Korea. The two week-training course was implemented under the Sub-Committee on Microelectronics and Information Technology (SCMIT) and supported by the ASEAN-ROK Special Cooperation Fund.

Led by experts from the SIVAT Korea, the participants were introduced to Advanced Java programming using Adobe Flex and Eclipse Builder, and basic foundation of IT management. The participants also learned the concept of ubiquitous computing; the new term for future technology which means anywhere and/or anytime connected to the computer or internet. A field visit to the Ubiquitous Dream Hall in downtown Seoul helped the participants to have better insights on future IT technologies and what they can do in the future.

Given that the training course was a success and has benefited ASEAN countries, SIVAT is considering to organise a similar activity in the future focusing on specific subject, and with a longer duration.
